Ventana Inn and Spa: A year-round Mobil 4-star Country Inn that offers elegant but casual accommodations.

Try the Post Ranch Inn. Nestled on the cliffs of Big Sur, the Inn
was voted No.1 hotel in California by Travel & Leisure, and Most
the Tree House to $2,800 for the Terra Mar. Each room has a
king-size bed, wood-burning fireplace, indoor spa tub, private
deck, stereo, digital music system with forty-five channels, coffee
& tea set-up. Guests enjoy a complimentary wet bar and mini-bar
with snacks, juices, and a half bottle of red and white wine.   No
televisions or alarm clocks in the guestrooms. All rooms are

Treebones Resort. It's a Yurt. These days, the tent-like domes are popping up around the world,
bringing comfort to the wilderness with an eye toward low-impact tourism. You may have noticed them on the
hillside near Gorda, above Highway 1.
Corinne Handy of Treebones Resort and her husband, John, bought the 10-acre property in 1988. After years of
working to secure the necessary permits, they opened Treebones in 2004.
Their 16 yurts are wired for electricity, with private decks; some have indoor gas-burning fireplaces.  At night,
entrées like grilled salmon and barbecued ribs are served in front of the lodge's crackling fire (from $18). Or
guests can dine outside at the 60-foot redwood bar. There's a heated pool and a hot tub.
Trailheads for the Los
Padres forest are a 10-minute drive away, or go down to Jade Cove or
Willow Creek beach for some
rockhounding. The resort also arranges guided day hikes (from $99) and sea-kayaking tours (from $55).

Also offered at Post Ranch are "shaman sessions," in which a spiritual advisor aids guests in soul retrieval

incorporates the energy of your power animal," according to the inn's Web site); destiny retrieval and divination;
and illumination. Ninety minutes with the shaman is $200; two hours is $255 for one person or $375 for two
people.
The Post Ranch Inn offers private yoga sessions, guided meditation, couples' massage instruction, and
customized hikes in Big Sur.
